SmackDown opened with a tribute video commemorating Rowdy Roddy Piper’s career. One thing you have to admit is that WWE’s production team always does a great job in producing commemorative videos. Too bad we had to see so much over the last year.
The New Day vs. Prime Time Cast and Mark Henry
Mark Henry joins Titus O’Neil and Darren Young to take over the entire New Day barn.
Bringing Henry to this match felt like a cheap way to get all three members of The New Day into a tag match with the champions.
Henry and The Prime Time Players took the win after finishing the World’s Strongest Man, Kofi Kingston.
As always, The New Day was a fun game, but it wasn’t enough to make this match memorable.
However, the backstage interview episode after his loss was pretty hilarious.
Charlotte and Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks and Naomi
Charlotte and Naomi were having a good match when Sasha Banks stepped in and forced The Authority to make it a team competition.
Becky Lynch joined Charlotte against Banks and Naomi for the remainder of the match. It was great to see that the tag section of the match was given two full episodes for the Divas for a total of three episodes in a row.
Stardust vs. Zack Ryder
Stardust took a relatively easy win over Zack Ryder in the singles match. Nothing notable happened except Ryder had a good attack.
Between the video pack, commentary and promo after the match, it really pushes the rivalry between WWE, Stardust and Stephen Amell.
Roman Reigns vs. Rusev
We’ve seen Rusev and Reigns in the ring before, but it still feels like a new pairing.
When you look at the repetitiveness of the vendettas, it’s easy to assume that everyone is facing everyone else, but these two men have not gone to extremes yet.
This match was whatever you thought it would be based on participants. Both men looked good, but the match as a whole was nothing special.
Final Thoughts and Forecasts
If you count both Divas matches as one long competition, only four matches were featured on this week’s schedule.
This would normally disappoint SmackDown but it actually worked.
The divas were given a particularly long time for singles and six-man team matches, the main event and team match were just the right length and Stardust vs. A squash match took longer than expected, Ryder said.
