Max Verstappen’s victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to end Mercedes’ stranglehold.
Abu Dhabi GP, the 17th and final race of the Formula 1 season, took place at the Yas Marina Circuit. The first race on this track, the construction of which was completed in 2009, was held in the same year. While Sebastian Vettel won the first race held here, Lewis Hamilton is the driver with the most victories here, with 5 wins. Another striking aspect of the business was that only Renault and Mercedes motor vehicles could win here in 11 races. Lewis Hamilton would be on the track in the last race of the season after the Covid-19 test result turned negative. As Grosjean is still not recovering, Fittipaldi would be on the track for Haas in this race. With that, Grosjean bid farewell to the Formula 1 arena. On the other hand, there is still a Red Bull and Mercedes seat that remains uncertain. The most popular name for Red Bull is Sergio Perez, who scored a surprise win last week. For Mercedes, Hamilton is expected to continue.
After the start at Abu Dhabi GP, Verstappen closed and maintained its leadership. The top 4 have not changed. The winner of the start was Magnussen, who climbed 3 places, while the top 8 ranks remained unchanged. Gasly managed to outrun Gasly Ocon as the Ocon battle was taking place. While he was behind 3 laps, Verstappen made the difference up to 2 seconds with Bottas. In the 6th round, Albon took a hard attack, leaving Norris behind and moved up to 4th place. Although Norris tried to pass the DRS open, Albon managed to stay inside. On lap 10, Perez slowed down and pulled aside and out of the race. With the yellow flags, the virtual safety car entered the track and Perez’s Racing Point adventure came to an end. With that, the teams made their pit stops.
On lap 14, the safety car entered and the race continued. In the 17th round, Sainz got the result of his attacks and moved up to 7th place, leaving Vettel behind. Leclerc managed to keep his place, although Stroll tried to overtake Leclerc. On the long straight as he entered the 18th round, Stroll managed to leave Leclerc behind by opening DRS. Immediately after a tour, Gasly surpassed Leclerc with his attack. On the plain at the start of lap 19, Ocon moves up to 11th, leaving Leclerc behind. Following these fallbacks, Leclerc pits. He returned to the race in the last place. Leclerc continues to rise as half of the race lags behind. The young pilot, who regressed to the last rank after the pit, managed to rise 4 places.
On lap 30, Gasly took a late dive in, outstripping Stroll and moving up to 9th place. After two laps, Gasly attacked Vettel this time, leaving him behind and moved up to the 8th place. On lap 31, Leclerc moved up to 14th place, overtaking Russell. At the end of the 35th lap, Vettel pitted for the first time and returned to the track in 15th place. Ricciardo is the only name that doesn’t come up with pits. At the 32nd lap, Ricciardo was also the last to change his tires by pitting. While entering the last 5 laps, the first 3 races have not changed since the beginning. While Albon pursued the podium, the McLaren pilots continued to follow him. Red Bull’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen won the last race of this passive season of 55 laps, and Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas finished the race in 2nd place. The last step of the rostrum was for another Mercedes pilot, Hamilton. Renault driver Ricciardo scored the fastest lap of the race with 1: 40.926.
